“Your Wings From The Back” is a visual exploration of the experience of queer African folk who are rejected by their communities.
Avis Dam was the chosen location with its ideally placid body of water adorned by rocks and shrubbery, and enveloped by hills. The perfect place for an angel to land.
The idea of this project was conceived after reading an eponymous work of prose written by Kgotso Dlamini. It was a vulnerable piece; I borrowed its emotion and put it in my lens.
I wanted my body to reflect the spurning, the grief that accompanies it, as well as the acceptance acquainted with it.
